ISLAMABAD: As part of its efforts over the past year to improve the system, the government said on Wednesday that the country is processing visa applications online for citizens of 191 countries.
In its annual performance report, the Interior Ministry headed by Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that in addition to issuing visas online, the government has also set up a foreign national security cell to further strengthen the safety of foreigners living in the country.
He said the online exit permit, a facility acquired by foreigners who do not have a valid Pakistani visa, has also been introduced in the country.
The report states that the establishment of the National Crisis Information Management Unit – a primary institution for the assessment and management of national intelligence – the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) – a new visa policy for Chinese nationals working in CPEC projects, and medical visas are some of the main achievements of the Interior Ministry.
In addition, online visas for Muslim citizens of foreign countries who wish to participate in Tabligh (preaching) activities in Pakistan are also issued to facilitate visiting the country.
“The rules for licensing weapons and the secretariat of the national action plan have also been established,” he added.
Besides the construction of 93 district courts, he added, 300 parks in the capital have also been modernized, while the construction of an additional hospital block in the capital is also in full swing.
The widening of 10th Avenue and other roads in the capital at a cost of 12 billion rupees and 6.7 billion rupees, respectively, are also underway.
He said another important government step is that legal heirs can obtain letters of administration and inheritance certificates from the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) without going to court – a major step to facilitate 50 million families. Issuing a passport within 24 hours, while applying for a passport from 96 countries online, he added, is also no longer a dream for Pakistan inside and outside the country. .
In order to facilitate Pakistani expatriates, he added, the government appointed 64 immigration officers at various Pakistani embassies abroad, while an extension of the validity of the passport from five years to 10 years with half a fee was performed.
In Sindh province, 13 new passport centers have been established to facilitate the masses.
Besides the digital upgrade, 1,143 new recruitments at the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have started, he said, adding another 500 vacancies for the FIA’s Cyber ââCrime Wing, as well as an advanced hardware system, are also underway. .
The process of recruiting an additional 2,000 police officers for the Islamabad Capital Territory Police (TIC) has also started, while the 150 Eagle Motorcycle Squad has also been made operational.
He said 28 checkpoints on various roads in the capital have been removed and a dedicated air patrol unit by drone and locators for live tracking and surveillance has been set up.
In addition to issuing a digital driver’s license and E-challan in the capital, a gender protection unit – a 24/7 helpline to ensure swift justice against crimes such as harassment and domestic violence – was created.
Last but not least, the report states that 40 million rupees in arrears of the Islamabad police martyrs have also been paid.
