Agent imprisoned for two years for Canadian visa fraud –

An Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, sentenced a 33-year-old man, Olanrewaju Sangodoyin, to two years in prison for defrauding his client of N750,000.

In rendering judgment on Thursday, Magistrate Abimbola Amole-Ajimoti sentenced Sangodoyin without the possibility of a fine.

Amole-Ajimoti said: “The convict is found guilty of the charges against him.

“He is hereby sentenced to two years imprisonment for fraud without possibility of fine at Abolongo Correctional Center, Oyo Town.

“He is also sentenced to one year in prison on the second count of stealing money from the plaintiff.

“The penalty is to run concurrently.”

Police charged Sangodoyin, who lives in Bota Estate, Ayegoro, Ibadan, with fraud and theft.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sergeant Philip Amusan told the court that the convict on December 17, 2018, with intent to defraud, obtained 750,000 Naira from Mutiu Yekinni in Imalefalafia, Idi-Ope region, Ibadan .

Amusan said the convict fraudulently obtained the money to obtain a Canadian visa for Yekinni, knowing it to be false.

He said the offense violated the provisions of Sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Oyo State Penal Code Acts 2000.
