Huskers Cap Seasonal preparations with red-white scrum – RIVER COUNTRY


The Nebraska volleyball team held their annual red-white scrum on Saturday night, with the game ending in a 2-2 draw in front of 7,940 fans at the Devaney Center.

Lexi Sun led the Huskers with a total of 16 kills alongside three blocks, with 12 of his kills for the Red team in sets one, two and four.

Madi Kubik totaled 14 wins and two blocks, and Whitney lauenstein also had 14 kills, including nine for Team White, as well as two blocks and an ace serving.

Ally Batenhorst finished with a combined total of 12 kills, 11 digs and a block. Eight of his kills came in the first set for Team White.

Lindsay krause landed 12 kills, including nine for Team Red.

Callie schwarzenbach managed 12 kills and nine blocks on the night, including nine kills and five blocks for the white team. Schwarzenbach was also honored between sets with the Lifter of the Year program award from a vote from her teammates.

Kalynn meyer posted eight blocks and seven wins, and Kayla Cafe totaled six kills overnight.

Nicklin Hames finished with a high of 32 assists with 11 digs and a pair of blocks for Team Red. Anni evans led the White team with 26 assists and added eight digs, and Kennedi orr had 25 assists in both teams, including 19 for the White team. Orr also chipped three blocks.

Defensively, Kenzie Knuckles and Keonilei Akana each finished with 20 digs, and Akana added two aces. Lexi rodriguez also had 17 excavations.

Set 1: White 25, Red 22
Whites won the opening set 25-22 behind eight kills from Batenhorst, five more from Caffey and four from Lauenstein.

Red hit .333 with Hames’ setting and had a 4-0 advantage for blocking the team. Sun led Red with four kills and Schwarzenbach scored three blocks.

White, hitting 0.545 out of the gate, got three assists from Batenhorst and took an 8-3 lead before a time-out for the Reds. Passing a tie of 12-12, Whites never gave up their lead the rest of the way.

Set 2: Red 26, White 24
A tight second set saw 10 draws and three lead changes. Kubik had six kills and two blocks to beat White, and Krause led Red with four kills.

White never trailed until the Reds tied it at 16 and used a 5-0 run punctuated with a sunburn to move up 19-16. But a Meyer / Kubik block and two kubik kills put the Whites on a 3-0 run to regain the lead, 22-21. The two teams then traded points up to 24-24, and a Batenhorst victory pushed him back 26-24 as the Reds tied the game at 1-1.

Set 3: White 25, Red 13
The Whites scored 0.385 as a team with just one attacking error and outscored the Reds 5-0 in a third set effort. Sun had four wins and Schwarzenbach tied her with four more wins alongside five blocks.

White took the lead 5-2 with an early 5-0 run and took a 13-8 lead before the victories of Schwarzenbach and Sun resulted in a time out for the Reds. The White team took a 21-11 lead after a 7-0 push with the help of two kills from Sun, an ace from Lauenstein and a solo block from Schwarzenbach.

A Schwarzenbach / Orr block brought him to set point before a Lauenstein kill finished him off.

Set 4: Red 25, White 17
Sun and Lauenstein managed five kills each in the final set to clear the way for Red. Schwarzenbach had five kills for the Whites.

Red used kills from Hames and Knuckles, a solo block from Meyer and an Orr / Meyer block to go up 12-5. Red then worked on his biggest lead at 20-9 on a 5-0 run with the help of kills from Lauenstein and Sun before ending the set at 25-17.
